i got a letter today, aged between 6 months and 5 years, I'm not happy that hubby got it (diabetic), my mother in law was offered it but she didn't want it, i don't really fancy my youngest getting it, as i cant see it being beneficial all this hype about it not being tested etc..
so would you take your little ones in to get it done?

Re: Swine flu vaccinations
No. The little one is most definitely not getting it and neither are any of us. No need, his immune system is pretty healthy, only sick once in 10 months which is about par for me and my boys.

Re: Swine flu vaccinations
I'm still thinking about it. Tbh hadn't given it that much thought, but *was* leaning towards not getting it. Not that we've had a letter...
A quick Google came up with these 3 perspectives - ranging from 'No!' to 'Possibly', to 'Yes!' Mail Online Guardian New Scientist

Re: Swine flu vaccinations
If it's of any use, we decided against getting ours done based on advice from our friend who's in that field, plus she's also got 3 kids under 3.
The info was along the lines of the drugs no ready to be marketd on mass due to the clinical trials not being fully undertaken, she believes that this mass rollout are the clinical trials which should have been done previously. She also stated that most if not all drugs are tested for years before being allowed out to the public, this swine flu vaccine hasn't had the same testing. Which when we thought about it was true, there was an outbreak then a few months later someone came up with a vaccine, a few months later everyone's getting it. Just my tuppence, but that was enough for us to decide that we weren't going to give it to our kids. That and the fact that when there was a few cases of it, Li was diagnosed with swine flu before any tests were done, he was given tamiflu and thus ended up as a statistic, it wasn't until after constant complaining that his temperature wasn't going down and threatening to take him to A&E or to sit in the doctors surgery until he was seen properly, that they took some swabs for testing and another doctor saw him, he was treated for an ear infection which cleared up after 3 days on the old banana flavour anti biotic. So how many of those people diagnosed with swine flu actually had it, the stats say one thing, experience says another. |

Re: Swine flu vaccinations
I think the reason for short (or no) clinical trials was that the swine flu vaccine is very much like (if not the same as) the seasonal flu vaccine but with a different deactivated virus. They don't mass trial the seasonal flu vaccines 'cos it'd all be over by the time the results are in.

Re: Swine flu vaccinations
My neighbour's daughter had the jab and her temp went up to 38.x for a couple of days. My wife is thinking that our two girls should have the job, I'm thinking not. I asked my friend who's a surgeon (and his wife is a GP) if they'd had their two boys jabbed and they had, and so I'm a little undecided now.
My poor girls are getting jabbed so often - oldest who is nearly 4 now has developed a major fear of needles. Even the toy doctors kit she got for xmas that had a toy syringe in had her in fits of tears and her arm still hasn't healed from the BCG jab she had over 4 months ago.

But in that same sentiment, the normal seasonal flu vaccines are tinkered with each year in the same fashion that the swine flu vaccine was created (the swine flu vaccine wasn't created any differently to the normal flu vaccine), and I don't actually think the seasonal flu vaccine has clinical trials every year for safety. Re: Swine flu vaccinations
both our little ones are pretty strong and have great overall health. plus they dont go to nursery. if they caught any flu it wouldnt be too difficult to contain within the household, although i'm prepared for the duration of the flu to seem pretty scary/hairy for a while... for us as parents that is!!!
hence we're ignoring the letter.
