Re: Working under someone younger than you
I work as a PA to 4 directors. 2 of them are exactly my age and the other 2 are a couple of years younger. I have no problem with that. They're all very decent people. I've worked for older directors who were rather rude or pompous.

Re: Working under someone younger than you
In an old job, I managed two people who has been at the company from before I was born! To be fair, they were really cool about it, and they knew that I got the job on my qualifications and were very open to working with me. I myself was a bit daunted, but after a while I got used to it.

Re: Working under someone younger than you
When i was promoted to my current role i inherited a team where a couple of the folks were much older than me. One was receptive to new ideas i brought to the department, in exchange for his wealth of knowledge of the company (been in the company for +25 years), the other not so much. It's a constant battle to get her to modernise......hard work i tell ya!
I'm also one not a fan of these fancy titles. Just the other day i had a meeting with the bankers and one of the chap is an 'Associate Director', he looks no older than 25 to me, is it any wonder the economy is screwed up royally by these bankers.

Re: Working under someone younger than you
I am currently experiencing rebellion from my colleagues. I went into the company as a temp in November, and by the end of December, I knew I was going to be undergoing training to become the manager to the team I was a part of. Some are fine with the idea, whilst others aren't receptive to the situation and refuse to do what I ask of them. I guess it doesn't help that I look younger than my age and they all think I'm late teens.

Generally, if you work in a meritocracy then there shouldn't be a problem working for people older/younger than you. Some people don't learn as fast while others are naturally more skillful. I have several people working for me who are younger than me. Don't think that any of them complain as they're fully aware of the extra work that I have to do, and they get full recognition of their efforts. I'm actually probably closer to retiring than starting my career now... From my experience, people generally leave their managers than the job. Then again from these boards, most people seem to be whingers. Where's the assertiveness?

Re: Working under someone younger than you
Let's just say he was more interested in the perks that our company can offer rather than sorting out an issue we have with them for the last 6 months.

Re: Working under someone younger than you
My manager is only 3 months older than me but she has been there for about 4-5 years since the company started so know the work of our department inside out.
