Chat Room Issues

Is there any way that the chatroom can be made more secure so that only registered members can sign in? Currently we seem to have a problem with people logging in as others and impersonating them for a laugh.

Not often I agree with you Kinith , but yeah I agree on this one!

Its annoying and disrupting the harmony of the chatroom when this happens. I think this is partly what killed the chatroom being used for a long time not only for me but also according to other users the same reason too. I am not sure if you could change your username back then, or if its only people with 'authority' . But it was what made some users stop using the room!

Now the chatroom has taken off again. And currently anyone can be anyone's name - it would be really stupid to allow this occuring problem to spoil things once again. So sort it out. Go on.

yesterday, im not sure what happened but i managed to log into the chat twice....i logged in as zerochan first.... logged out then tried to login again but said username was used .... so i used 0chan and my name was still there .... strange

There never used to be a problem with the chatroom a couple of years ago. It used to be pretty entertaining. When the chatroom tried to have a revival last year (?) users found you could log in with any name, your own, someone else's or something entirely made up.

Seems like the chatroom functions have got even more basic and log is still an issue. I don't know it is a funding or maintenence issue that is creating these chatroom issues?

What happened to the password thing? It wasn't safe even with the password but now that it's gone, anyone without a membership (guests) can log in.

Update: Why was there a Mod A signed in the chat room? Fake or real?

i had trouble logging in today .....

for about 30mins i couldnt get onto chat

all that came up on the screen was a little box with a red cross in the top right corner with the following message

: error click here for details .....

not sure if i was my netbook or the chat but after closing and re opening the chat window numerous times... i finally got in ......

yeah i remember when it used to be really good and we used to spend hours in there playing isketch. But that was in our younger days *sigh*

I didn't even know that there was a chat room now.

The chatroom was previously integrated with the boards which meant you could only use your own username in the chat room. However due to performance issues the link had to be removed.

Hopefully this will be resolved via a future software/hardware upgrade.

I was at the London meet yesterday and was asked to see if I could fix the chat room. There is VB authentication when you login to the chat room. However, it doesn't work and I'm not sure why. I don't really have time to track down the problem either.

The next best thing that I have done is to login automatically when you enter the chat room. This will prevent users from changing their username.

However, it is still possible that users not registered to the forum, or not logged in can still enter the chat room, but they will appear as "Unregistered".

If this is not good please let me know, and I will revert the change to how it was before.

That is not correct. Anyone may enter that chat room and participate.

i thought that at first also .... i think its because the chatroom link is posted right beneath the " vip" section which kinda made it misleading
