University Challenge's Chinese super-winner Oliver Chen personally wiped out Manchester Uni last week, crushing their Semi-Final hopes and sending them in Jeremy Paxman's words to 'sudden death', whilst cruising Oxford Uni's St John's College & his grateful colleagues to a nail-bitingly close but emphatic win. Watch the last three mins of the show, as the off-screen announcer shouts "ST JOHN'S - CHEN!!" Then, Champion Chen immediately answers the sudden death question right, instantly catapulting St John's to near the top of the competition! No, to be honest it isn't just about colour, but about identity and people prepared to join in with others of a different ethnic or cultural background...

To be honest, last time you complained that the people featured in my thread were actors, and by implication the mixed-race marriage idea was meaningless, even though the actors are reflecting a growing reality - and promise - of a future of a growing mixture of races and cultures. I feel now I've based the subject of my thread on a real-life person, you haven't acknowledged that - but instead, just switched the subject of your attack to something else instead. I feel that at least you could at least give a little credit for featuring the original person in a real-life situation...

No, that's true. But to be fair, I did point out that he alone pushed Oxford over the line and catapulted them straight to the semi-finals. Nobody else can take credit for what he accomplished.

Pls don't do that, man. I am listening to what you say, even though you may think I don't care about your views, I really do. And I try to make changes to accommodate your wishes, but maybe you haven't noticed that. Anyhow, I'm honestly not trying to wind you, or anyone else, up.

I won't make the criticism of you that you don't need to read my threads. After all, I think it's my duty to you & others to make the threads interesting, diverse and hopefully, some fun. Still a work in progress, though...

Maybe it looks 'BBC-patriotic', and I guess I can understand where you're coming from on this point. But when a former member criticized me about what he saw as over-praise of our achievements, one of the old-timers defended me & said it isn't as though the media have exactly been bending over backwards in pointing out our successes. So I'm trying to redress the balance a little bit. I'm really sorry that you think I've gone too far, and sorry if I've offended you, also.

So, maybe I've missed something in the way that I respond. Maybe you think I'm too excitable, but I really don't see what's wrong with specifically pointing out the successes of other Chinese people, in being openly enthusiastic about it, and celebrating it for all to see.

Very sorry if another of my posts/threads has upset you. Taking a note of everything you say - even those things I don't agree with you about. I must try to remember that this is a subtle and very polite country, si I'll try to make my threads reflect that reality...

No, you don't get it! I've already said before: white isn't superior, per se! The only thing that is superior is the situation, because people of different races are interacting on TV. And how many times do you hear the complaint that us Chinese guys never seem to have interractions with women outside our race?
