Re: Whats cooking in your kitchen tonight?

hey tigergrrl!

am bloomin starvin tho' as i am awaiting the arrival of BF before i could start cooking it.. i just hope it'll turn out ok as the extra soya to replace the ketcap manis has made the 'paste' v watery... hmmm, is the rice meant to be quite dry like in normal fried rice, or v moist for this dish? reason why i'm asking is that i haven't had it before, but am making it for BF as he's raved on about the one he has at work! traitor or what!!

The dish I make is slightly moist although I am not sure if this is the true consistency. But its luverly! So who cares.

How did it go anyway?

sorry for the delay..

well, the dish didn't turn out the way that i had expected. apart from replacing some of the ingredients with ones i could find in my store cupboard, i found the experience rather disappointing. i didn't think the dish was v 'fragrant' as the chinese would say it. it was just like a chinese fried rice dish with a hint of spice in the background. maybe i should up the spice and make it again some other day... oh well, i'll live and learn!

i've made tonight's dinner in advance - i've made a lamb in mooli dish but spiced it up with 5 spice, star anise, soya and cumin. hopefully, this will be a success... i know i was meant to use beef brisket, but had a lamb in the freezer to use up.

Re: Whats cooking in your kitchen tonight?

just started making 2 soups - chicken feet & peanut soup and the other i can't really describe. it's got goji berries, pork ribs, chinese dates, dried mustard, clams and something that looks like soft brown semi-opaque berry (v sweet). the latter is made up. dunno how it'll turn out tho. the chicken feet one is what i've been craving for all week but only made a small one as it's not so interesting after half a bowl.

also, we're having seabass with springonion and ginger....

as there's just the two of us now (only child left for uni last yr - boohoo!) i sometimes have to make the effort to make more than one dish.

Re: Whats cooking in your kitchen tonight?

I made instant noodles (if you can call that cooking ) mixed with oyster sauce and dark soy sauce. This is only because I got home late from work.

I am now eating a questionable egg custard tart.

Re: Whats cooking in your kitchen tonight?

Making a massive pot of chicken soup for my sick flatmate. She's been throwing up for most of the night and phoned in sick today. Luckily I'm on a day off so I popped out to get her some medicine and other bits.

Just call me nurse sawpaw!
